RE: The tariff classification of Barium carbonate from China

Dear Ms. Chan:

In your ruling request dated November 28, 2011, on behalf of Aslchem International, Inc., you requested a tariff classification ruling for Barium carbonate.

The applicable subheading for Barium carbonate will be 2836.60.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Carbonates; peroxocarbonates (percarbonates); commercial ammonium carbonate containing ammonium carbamate: Barium carbonate. The rate of duty will be 2.3 percent ad valorem.

Barium carbonate of Chinese origin may be subject to antidumping duties or countervailing duties (AD/CVD). Written decisions regarding the scope of AD/CVD orders are issued by the Import Administration in the Department of Commerce and are separate from tariff classification and origin rulings issued by Customs and Border Protection.
